Dayna Manning: Singer songwiter

Dayna Manning podcast, singer songwriter, interview

Dayna Manning is one of Canada’s most accomplished singer songwriters.

When she was in her teens she had a hit song on the radio. Soon after that she found herself, in the words of Joni Mitchell, “Stoking the star maker machinery behind the popular song.”

At times the chat you are about to listen to unfolds like an episode of the popular TV show “Nashville”…except it’s not a TV show.

This is the story of a real person, trying to make a difference in her community, and the world, through music.

We discuss Tom Petty’s influence, working with Grammy award winning music producer Jim Scott, Dayna’s contribution to Stratford, Ontario’s Heritage Square committee, and her sojourn in northern British Columbia.

As well as having a successful solo career, these days Dayna is playing sold out concerts with Emm Gryner and Lindsay Schindler as part of the popular trio Trent Severn.

We talk about the writing process behind some of their songs.

Chilina Kennedy: Actress, singer, songwriter (2016)

Chilina Kennedy interview, stratford, beautiful: the carole King story, what's in a bottle

It was just announced that Chilina Kennedy will return to Broadway, January 3, 2019, to once again star in “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” I spoke to Kennedy in 2016.

We talk about the impact Kennedy’s previous Broadway roles had on her creative process for playing Carole King in “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.”

Kennedy has a young son and we discuss the challenges of being a parent on Broadway.

Kennedy is also an accomplished singer and songwriter, her most recent CD “What You Find in a Bottle” is an evocative compilation of intimate songs she wrote during, and after,
the break-up of a relationship.

We discuss how Kennedy found the strength to write about these deeply personal moments in her life and the musicians Kennedy chose to work with, some of whom she met while performing at the Stratford Festival, including the Festival’s former Director of Music Rick Fox and percussionist Graham Hargrove.
