Liisa Repo-Martell is an intense actor and a fun person to interview.
Currently, Repo-Martell is leading an ad-hoc campaign, Artists for Real Climate Action, to remind politicians that “there is an absolute demand for real serious climate action now.” Visit their website here: thisisnotadrill.ca
We recorded this conversation many months ago while Liisa was performing in “The Boy in the Moon” at the Grand Theatre in London. Based on the book by Ian Brown, it’s the true story of a family’s journey raising their son, who suffers from an extremely rare genetic disorder. Liisa opens up about the challenges of acting in a play that is at once striking, funny, and profoundly moving.
We discuss the time Liisa performed Shakespeare with Keanu Reeves, which was a significant turning point in her life, but not for the reason you would expect.
Liisa is married to director Chris Abraham, and she shares details about the time in their courtship when he invited her to a line dancing class. We also talk about how the couple finds a balance between family life and work life.
